The following college ranking data was excerpted from U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Colleges 2006 Edition. See here for the latest rankings. U.S News & World Report's college rankings are the most well-known, but are somewhat controversial. They are based on academic reputation (based on surveys of college administrators), graduation and retention rank, faculty resources, class size, student/faculty ratio, percent of full-time faculty, selectivity, acceptance rate, financial resources, graduation rate performance, and alumni giving rate. Their priorities may not be the same as yours. By going to their Website, you can reorder the rankings based on what is most important to you.

These rankings should be used as just one part of the college selection process. They give a rough overall indicator of a school's quality, but they do not tell what may be the most suitable for you.

For freshmen, graduate school rankings may not seem important, but it can indicate the quality of the faculty, the research, and the graduate students (who are usually teaching assistants) at the college. See here for the latest graduate school rankings
