Mel Brooks' classic spoof of just about every Frankenstein movie is easily one of the funniest movies of all time. Brooks and Gene Wilder, in their prime, were 2 of the funniest guys you'll find anywhere. Wilder stands out in every way as Dr. Frankenstein, "its pronounced Fronk-en-steen".
The character who is probably remembered the most is Marty Feldman, who plays Igor (what hump?). Also in the cast is Teri Garr, who is Wilder's German assistant. And last but not least is the monster, played by Peter Boyle. Boyle is excellent as the monster. His mmmmm are executed nicely. This classic has tons and tons of funny scenes. It's hard to forget Gene Hackman has the blind man who mistakenly pours the hot soup into Boyle's lap, instead of his bowl. Kenneth Mars as the mechanical handed officer is hysterical. And we cannot forget Wilder and Boyle's monstrous take of "Puttin' on the Ritz". One of the best for Brooks and Wilder, who co-wrote the film. |
