| Film adaptation of H.G. Well�s classic story of martian takeover has surprising nifty special effects. For a 1950's movie, this one is kind of scary. Director Byron Haskin doesn�t take long before he gets the action going. The best part about the film, of course, is the mysterious martian ships. Their appearance still looks neat and their ever so powerful light ray is still destructive. Definitely one of the classics in the sci-fi genre. Received 2 Academy Award nominations: Best Film Editing, Best Sound. |
