Vampires (1998)
CAST: James Woods, Daniel Baldwin, Sheryl Lee, Thomas Ian Griffith
DIRECTOR: John Carpenter
MPAA RATING: R
RUNNING TIME: 107 Minutes
STUDIO: Sony Pictures

The master of horror John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing) offers up his first stab at a vampire flick. The result is a miserable film. The film basically has a semi-exciting beginning that lasts about 8 minutes, then another 1 hour and 30 minutes passes, then the grand finale finally arrives, and it's nothing to brag about. I almost fell asleep during the film. After the first action scene, if you can call it that, the actors themselves have to try and act, and man, do they stink at it. James Woods, who's the lead slayer, does his job, but the rest fall flat on their face.

Daniel Baldwin made me laugh several times. He wasn't saying anything funny, it was just that he was trying to act. If you see a Baldwin on screen and his first name isn't Alec, cover your eyes. He's terrible. Sheryl Lee's shaking throughout the entire movie will make you want to shove a stake through her heart. And the Master Vampire looks more like a rock star. If he's supposed to be the strongest vampire, then you have nothing to worry about. Treat this film like a vampire. Keep your distance!
