The Truman Show (1998)
CAST: Jim Carrey, Ed Harris, Laura Linney
DIRECTOR: Peter Weir
MPAA RATING: PG
RUNNING TIME: 104 Minutes
STUDIO: Paramount

Truman Burbank lives the kind of life that most people dream about. He doesn't have to worry about anything. He never has any problems, no fears, no reason to think that anything could wrong with his life. His life is a routine, basically. So routine that it's in fact a television show, running 24 hrs a day for the whole world to watch. He unknowingly provides entertainment for millions of strangers, he provides them with a quaint, peaceful persona that puts everyone at ease. If you're feeling bad, just turn on the tv and watch Truman's everyday life.

Jim Carrey does a better-than-expected job as Mr. Burbank. He doesn't talk out of his butt, he doesn't make those crazy faces, and he doesn't put on a green mask. He acts. Yes, there is a dramatic side to Carrey, although in a few parts of the movie, a little bit of Ace Venutra/Liar Liar in him sneaks out for a few minutes. He gives the movie a comedic side without having to scream and make weird faces. He gives the movie everything it needs, including star power. Ed Harris plays Christof, the creator of the Truman Show. He decides when the Sun comes up and when the Moon comes up. If he wants it to rain, it rains. He controls everything in the show, except Truman himself. The best part of the film is when Truman begins to suspect that something is wrong with his life. It is best to know little, or nothing at all about this movie. You will be surprised with Carrey's performance, it's rather quite good...and so is the movie.
