Strange Days (1995)
CAST: Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett, Juliette Lewis, Tom Sizemore
DIRECTOR: Kathryn Bigelow
MPAA RATING: R
RUNNING TIME: 145 Minutes
STUDIO: 20th Century Fox

It's only 2 days from the year 2000, and there has never been more crime. Ralph Fiennes is a former-cop-turned-street hustler. He has the new drug for the new millenium. It's a hat-like device you place on your head. What it does is let's you take part in another person's memory in their lives. If one person robbed a bank, you could play that disc and be "in their shoes" if you wanted an adrenaline rush. As Fiennes puts it, it's "better than tv and then some".

As the film finally moves along, Fiennes begins to receive mystery discs which show him murders that have just recently happened. The killer keeps leaving him the discs to show off his work. With the help of his friend (Bassett), Fiennes must find out who the killer is and he must protect his ex-girlfriend (Lewis), as he feels she's a target.

Lots of great camera work from Bigelow, especially that opening scene. Still, the movie is just way too long and drags in places. Fiennes, Bassett, and Sizemore are solid and Lewis is well...Lewis, which means she stinks. James Cameron co-wrote the script, which is dark and offers some neat ideas towards 2K. Great eye-candy and an unusual idea make this above-average material.
