There are at least 2 things that you will most likely get in every Tim Burton film. Darkness and some really cool looking sets. Those are just 2 of the many fantastic things you'll find in Burton's latest creation, SLEEPY HOLLOW.
Almost everyone knows the story of "Sleepy Hollow". Johnny Depp is Ichabod Crane, who is the constable in New York City. He must travel to "Sleepy Hollow" to investigate mysterious murders that have happened. The entire town believes it is the work of the Headless Horseman. Depp disagrees, until one night he comes face tobody with the evil spirit. SLEEPY HOLLOW has some mind-blowing sets, not to mention first rate effects. There's enough fog to fill an entire city. And Burton's use of colors comes into play. Depending on the mood, the colorization will go from red to blue and so on. The film is dark, much like BATMAN was. And the forest features some creapy looking trees. Like most Burton films, the characters are secondary and the plot is a little thin. It's a muddled mix of conspiracy and why the headless horseman attacks. Depp is strong in the lead, as we was in ED WOOD. He plays Crane to perfection. He's just as spooked and nervous as the cartoon character. Just see if you can count how many times he faints. Burton was none to pleased when his movie got an R rating. I can see why it did get that rating. There are heads flying around like crazy. And there is plenty of blood. SLEEPY HOLLOW is not only great to look at, but it is a terrific horror movie. Combine that with Burton's imagination, and what you've got is a very good film. |
