If there is one genre out there that doesn't have an identity, it's the parody film. Now, there have been numerous bad attempts at parody ("Spy Hard"), but there's also been some funny ones too ("Airplane", The Naked Gun Series).

The parody genre can get away with being bad sometimes because all they're doing is making fun of something they think is bad, or overdone. What better genre to make fun of than the horror genre? Has that been overdone or what?

I love horror movies, more than most. But it does feel good to poke some fun at them, especially the hip/scary 90s films. This film builds most of its laughs from "Scream", and rightfully so.

"Scream" completely brought the horror genre back from the grave. And it also helps that the distrubitor of "Scream", Dimension, is also behind this movie. Other victims of the parody are "I Know What You Did Last Summer", "The Matrix", "The Blair Witch Project", "The Sixth Sense", and even "The Usual Suspects".

The story started out in two different paths. Eventually, the two were crossed together, with the Wayans Brothers headlining the whole thing.

The movie has been delayed several times, ranging from release dates around October of '99 to Spring of 2000. It's finally here. Does it deliver? Most of the time...

Comedies usually gamble a little too often with the jokes, and when more than half don't connect, then you've got a problem. A parody like this film tries a 1,000 jokes, and more than have do connect.

It's like a better version of "Austin Powers 2". That movie had more jokes created than any other, but most weren't funny. At least not worthy of an outloud chuckle.

"Scary Movie" has some moments where you shake your head because the joke was too bad. But many times you'll be wiping tears from your eyes.

The last thing about this movie that surprised me was the rating. After seeing this film, I still can't believe it only got an R rating. This movie makes "There's Something About Mary" seem like a Facts of Life spinoff.
