RUNNING TIME: 135 Minutes
STUDIO: Universal

This film's overall message is to show you the ins and outs of a political campaign. And although Universal doesn't intend to completely mawk Bill Clinton and co., you can't help but love the way the movie is presented. The setting is so realistic that you may find yourself looking for Kenneth Starr to be lurking around. Every aspect involving Governor Jack Stanton(John Travolta) and his wife(Emma Thompson) seems to relate to the real life Clinton marriage. Thompson's performance is remarkable as she delivers the exact type of fury and gut that you must have to stay strong in an election.

The movie filters its story through a black campaign helper, played by Adrian Lester. You would think the movie was based on him instead of Travolta's character. The film has many laughs, at least for about the first hour and a half. After that, its plot turns into a dark, dramatic direction, but swiftly turns back on course. Billy Bob Thornton, who plays a political advisor, is simply fun to watch. Also thrown in the mix is the very talented Kathy Bates, whose character seemingly will do whatever it takes to protect the Clinton's...er the Stanton's reputation. The events that are unfolded may or may not be the exact way a campaign is operated, but you will have a lot of fun watching this movie's version of it.
