Pee-Wee loves his bike more than anything in the entire world. Once it gets stolen, Pee-Wee must hit the road in search of his beloved bicycle. Along the way, he gets into some trouble with "Satan's Helpers", hitches a ride with an escape con, and gets chased by security at the Warner Brothers lot.
This was the feature-film debut of director Tim Burton. Having not seen this film in over 10 years, I forgot alot of the bizarre, yet very funny sequences from the film. Alot of Burton's effects and sets can be found in some of his other films, particularly BEETLEJUICE and EDWARD SCISSORHANDS. The movie was shot on a small budget, so the filmmakers had to do simple, which worked out great.
Herman himself has a blast in the film. Not only starring, but he co-wrote the script with Phil Hartman, who also appears in the film as a reporter. It's just the right kind of family movie because the kids will love the bike and Herman, and the adults will enjoy some of the more grown-up humor. And to top things off, we get treated to one of the best scores ever hatched by Danny Elfman, who has worked with Burton many times. This was also his first scoring of a movie.
