After having bombs in The Peacemaker and Batman & Robin, George Clooney redeems himself in Out of Sight. This entertaining, plot-twisted movie is easily Clooneys best work and perhaps the same is said for Jennifer Lopez. The plot is alittle twisted because the movie fades from the present to the past and vice-versa. It sometimes has a Pulp Fiction feel to it, though not nearly as complicated.
Clooney is a clever bank robber who finally gets busted after 200 scams. Once he escapes from prison, a Federal Marshal (Lopez), is on the case. They begin to fall for each other during all the mayhem. Clooney and his partner (Ving Rhames) have their sights set on a huge score of diamonds that will keep them wealthy for the rest of their lives. Not to be overlooked are the brilliant performances of Steve Zahn and Don Cheadle. Both play 2 criminals who work in very different ways. Soderbergh's nifty direction makes this movie very intriguing, especially his present/past approach. This is probably the best movie of 1998 that no one knows about. |
