The Mystery Men are second-string when it comes to crime-fighting. They're the low class superheroes who don't get any of the press and none of them are billionaires like Batman. They just do their jobs, at least try to.
Once Casanova Frankenstein (Rush) gets released from the mental hospital, it intends to wreak havoc once again in Champion City, which by the way is great to look at. It makes Joel Schumacher's Gotham look like a dollhouse. The only true superhero to stop Cas is none other than Captain Amazing (Kinnear), who's outfit resembles a race-car driver, lots of sponsors. So when Amazing gets caught by Frankenstein, it's up to our powerless heroes to save the day. This movie is directed by first-timer Kinka Usher, who has done lots of commercials. You can tell it's his first time because the movie moves like a rollercoster...up and down. You'll love it one minute and hate it the next. It's too long and drags often, but with a strong finish, MYSTERY MEN actually turns out to be a decent comedy. |
