RUNNING TIME: 88 Minutes

What's in Lake Placid, you ask? A 30-foot crocodile that just loves to eat anything floating in the water. The giant reptile has swum from Asia to a little town in Maine. Why? Who knows, but a search group, led by Bill Pullman and Bridget Fonda, is out to catch him.

More laughs than scares, LAKE PLACID is a smaller, not-as-fun version of ANACONDA. It hides the crocodile about as well as hiding the action. David E. Kelley's script looks and sounds like an extended version of Ally McBealwith a crocodile. This just doesn't feel like a monster movie, and it isn't. It's a comedy with some bits of gore added in.

So, why didn't the crocodile leave the lake to begin with? Well, good old Betty White has been feeding him for a few years. Does that sound insane? Of course, even for a movie. Next time you go up to cold Maine and you're hunting 30-foot crocodiles, make sure to bait your helicopter with a cow. It's the best way to catch them.
