L.A. Confidential (1997)
CAST: Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce
DIRECTOR: Curtis Hanson
MPAA RATING: R
RUNNING TIME: 138 Minutes
STUDIO: Warner Brothers

An Oscar nomination for Best Picture went to this tale about the life and times of L.A. crime in the 1950s. Without a doubt, this movie deserved the nomination and might have won it if not for a big boat called "Titanic". It's a tale of good cops, bad cops, gangsters, hookers, reporters, and everything else that fits in. With a steady cast, a taut script, and a setting as swift as '50s life in LA, this is a great movie. Guy Pearce plays the young, smart detective who won't stop until he finds all of his answers. His performance is excellent. Kevin Spacey plays another detective who exchanges information with the "Hush Hush" reporter, Danny DeVito. And Russell Crowe as the tough-minded, kick-ass detective who doesn't take anything from anyone. Those three, along with an Oscar for Best Screenplay, and action-filled suspense makes this a must-see movie.
