The massive weapon GoldenEye was never believed to have existed. It is very real and poses a threat to the entire world. Only one man is even remotely capable of stopping it. His name is Bond...James Bond.
This time, we have a new Bond. He is played by Pierce Brosnan. Though he doesn't have quite the swagger as Connery, Brosnan is easily the the second best 007. His debut is a successful one. GOLDENEYE has a dark tone to it. There's a little more violence than usual and the bad guys actually seem to pose a threat. The movie follows a similar formula of the older Bond films. It puts more emphasis on plot and the bad guys than purely mindless action. Of course, the 90s Bond fans want the action and this movie delivers. Featuring enormous set pieces, GOLDENEYE also offers tons of firepower. It has one of the best openings of any Bond film and the tank chase is quite impressive. Famke Janssen is the highlight in this adventure. Her evil "Onatopp" Russian is very enjoyable to watch. The series has evolved from the old days, thank goodness. You can't have a 60s character appear as one in the 90s. Brosnan will dominate this series for awhile and that is a good thing. The Bond's and their films vary, but one thing is certain. He'll always save the day. |
