For a movie that was the most hyped, most intriguing, most anticipated summer blockbuster ever, it also must be the most disappointing. I have never been so disappointed about such a film. This is supposed to be the big, bad Godzilla that we've all been waiting for. Well...it was the biggest, baddest, toughest Godzilla ever, but the film doesn't allow you to enjoy him as much as you want. The movie spends way too much time and effort to try and develop the characters, who are as flat as paper, and leave Godzilla hanging.

There is way, way too much talking and not enough Godzilla stomping. The one-dimensional characters are unbelieveably dense. Matthew Broderick, who plays the scientist that stumbles onto Godzilla, is the only character that you even pay attention too. That's not saying that he deserves a lot of credit, but as for his fellow cast members, you will be screaming "Godzilla, destroy them!". Godzilla's appearance has been kept top secret in all of the trailers; he's also kept secret in the film itself! They do show all of Godzilla, including his face, but he is used sparingly. The special effects were incredible, but it's just a little tease.

At one point in the movie, I had completely forgotten about Godzilla. The movie makers were spending too much time trying to get a few laughs out of the film with some very corny jokes. The script was garbage, the jokes were pathetic, and the acting.....well, Godzilla did a good job, at least what you see of him. In all, he's probably running around in the film for about 15 minutes, while the other 2 hours are spent showing the army, and more of the army, and a little more of the army. I wanted this to be a movie where there was no talking, just people screaming and running from a giant lizard who is pissed off. But I didn't get that, I got just a small sample of Godzilla, and a huge sample of the horrid cast. In the sequel, let Godzilla have more screen time than Broderick.
