Glory (1989)
CAST: Matthew Broderick, Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Cary Ewles
DIRECTOR: Edward Zwick
MPAA RATING: R
RUNNING TIME: 122 Minutes
STUDIO: TriStar

Genuine and powerful depiction of the Civil War. The focus is on the 54th Massachusetts, which was the first black volunteer infantry in the Civil War. Many powerful scenes enhance very worthy direction that captivates the worst event in the history of the United States. Standout performances all around, especially Freeman and Washington, who won an Oscar. Broderick is quite acceptable as the Colonel in charge of the regiment. At first glance, he seems miscast, but he's a steady presence in the entire film. The film best shows how the regiment begins to unite as the movie goes onward. Starting out unknowing of anything, they begin to turn into solid troops and they represent the true meaning of courage. Never slowing down for a second, Glory defines how inglorious the Civil War was.
