A video store clerk's (Matthew McConaughy) life changes drastically when he agrees to let himself be filmed on live tv, 24 hours a day. Directed by Ron Howard (APOLLO 13), Edtv is very funny and uses more than the usual cliched antics to show it. For instance, the 1st day of "Edtv" shows Ed scratching himself. What a perfect beginning. McConaughy falls for his older brother's (Woody Harrelson) ex-girlfriend (Jenna Elfman). You know that after the relationship gets going, something has to break it apart before they can get back together again. It happens in every movie. The thing that gets between them, of course, is the television and the lack of privacy, but that doesn't deprive from this movie.
Funny most of the time, Edtv is kind of predictable, but most movies are. It could have easily been made well under 2 hours, but that's not a major problem. At times, the film drags its feet, but so what. It does have its faults, but it is still a movie that will be entertaining for everyone. Edtv may have similar ideas as The Truman Show, but these are 2 totally different movies. |
