Joel Schumacher is a perfectionist. Not in the manner as a Kubrick or a Cameron. He can perfectly ruin a movie. He's done it before. Remember the terrible BATMAN & ROBIN? He does it again here, except Nicolas Cage keeps this movie from going down the tubes.
Cage plays a private investigator who is looking into a snuff film. Where the film takes him will change his life forever. The biggest problem with this very dark film is that Schumacher is obsessed with drilling the evil world of pornography into our heads. The film gets to one point where it is very tough to stomach what is on screen. Cage gives a decent performance, but his performances lately are getting worse, so are his movies. The best part about the movie is how evil this industry can get. It shows the scummest of the scum. |
