Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988)
CAST: Steve Martin, Michael Caine, Barbara Harris
DIRECTOR: Frank Oz
MPAA RATING: PG
RUNNING TIME: 110 Minutes
STUDIO: Image Entertainment

The 2 dirty rotten scoundrels in this film are Michael Caine and Steve Martin. Caine has been a suave player in the small, yet rich town of Beaumont-sur-Mer for some time and has had no competition. Not until Martin shows up, who is a less-than-classy amatuer con man. Once an American lady named Janice, who recently got rich, arrives in town, the two make a deal to see which one can get $50,000 out of her. The loser has to the town forever.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels features some of Martin's best physical comedy ever. He is at his best when he plays Caine's "special" brother, Ruprict. There are moments from The Jerk in this film, which is another movie that features a very funny Martin.

Caine and Martin play off each other nicely. The funniest scene features Martin as a fake war vet who is confined to a wheelchair. He tells Janice that he needs $50,000. The money will go to Martin's doctor, who he believes can make him walk again. Little does Martin know that Caine decides to play "doctor", and his plan goes from good to bad. Caine then gets to make Martin suffer by "helping" him walk again. It's a very amusing scene.
