Contact (1997)
CAST: Jodie Foster, Matthew McConaughey, James Woods
DIRECTOR: Robert Zemeckis
MPAA RATING: PG
RUNNING TIME: 150 Minutes
STUDIO: Warner Brothers

After a second viewing of this film, I didn't hate it as much as the first time. Though it's very far from perfect, CONTACT does offer some thankful different perspective about aliens. It's a much more smarter approach to life on Mars than you'll find in ID4 or Men in Black.

Foster is the only character to care about in this film. The rest are just there to take up space. Though the length (150 Minutes) feels like an eternity sometimes, it's still worth seeing. The film starts off at a snail's pace, but it does pick up when they receive the signal from space.

The effects are brilliant. They really shine when Foster begins her voyage to seek life on other planets. Zemeckis' direction is good, though it's below what he did with FORREST GUMP. One of the few non-slimey sci-fi films.
