Chasing Amy (1997)
CAST: Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams, Jason Lee
DIRECTOR: Kevin Smith
MPAA RATING: R
RUNNING TIME: 105 Minutes
STUDIO: Miramax

Holden (Ben Affleck) is a cartoon artist who has fell in love with his good friend Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams). Theres just one problem, shes gay. Affleck wins her over and spends a good part of the movie trying to deal with her wild past.

This comedy/drama has an ample amount of good acting in it. Affleck is strong in the lead while Adams does a nice job playing a gay/strait character. She excels during the drama parts. And then theres Jason Lee, who plays Afflecks longtime buddy and the guy who doesnt approve of the new relationship. He provides the comic relief and throws out some hilarious one-liners, some of the funniest Ive heard.

The subject matter has strong graphic detail, but with the good performances, this is a very uplifting romantic comedy. And the movie has issues (faithfulness, friendship, etc) that many people can relate to, which may be its biggest asset. The scene with Ben Affleck and "Silent Bob" (Director Kevin Smith) and his buddy is one of the funniest scenes in recent memory.
