Many of us have probably wished we were stranded on a deserted island. After seeing this film, you may never wish for that to ever happen.

Tom Hanks is a FedEx employee who finds himself stranded on an island after a mishap on an airplane. And once he gets there, we the audience begin to feel stranded with him.

Hanks is the genuine good guy actor, an updated version of Jimmy Stewart. Yet, here, we see a different side of Hanks. But even so, we still hope Tommy is alright.

The camera is on this guy the entire picture. We feel for the guy with every frown from his face and everytime he calls for help. This is a different kind of movie, a "Robinson Crusoe" for the new year.

It's all about survival and having the will to go on living. Hanks has to resort to finding his own food and luckily, a few FedEx packages help him out during his stay. If you haven't seen the trailer, you'll enjoy this as much as I did.

As for the photography, it's excellent and sometimes jaw-dropping. Zemeckis has a knack for the big screen and it shows here with some gorgeous shots of the crystal blue ocean.

This is actually one time where supporting characters aren't needed. This is just watching Tom Hanks survive. I don't know if any other actor could have pulled this off, but Hanks nails the part. This may be the actor's best work yet.
