Everyone has wanted to be someone else at one point or another. And some have probably wanted to be someone else all the time. Well, John Cusack has figured out a way to let you be John Malkovich for 15 minutes.

Cusack is a puppeteer. And a good one at that. Of course, there isn't a huge call for those kinds of people in the workplace. So Cusack latches on as a filer at an office building. On the "7 1/2 Floor", in his office, he discovers a small door that is actually a portal into John Malkovich's head. Once you enter, you see what he sees and you have 15 minutes before your thrown on the New Jersey Turn Pike.

It's weird to say the least. But wipe out the Malkovich character, and this is essentially about people wanting change in their live. But it's the kind of people who don't want to change themselves, but rather be someone else, so that they may live out other fantasies or dreams they may have had. It just so happens that all they have to choose from is Mr. Malkovich.

For some unprofound reason, this movie was passed over in the Best Picture race. There's no doubt it should've been nominated, along with John Malkovich himself. The movie's dark tone probably hurt its Oscar chances, but who cares. This art film is so original that it will be looked upon for many years.

The humor is there, but the story moves away from that and beings to turn into a dark, mysterious world. Greed begins to take over as everyone wants to be someone else. And in the process they forget the well-being of the puppet they are wanting to play with.
