The year is 3000. And humans are almost completely extinct. The race had a 9-minute battle with a superior group of aliens, called Psychlos. Once the survivors were found, the Psychlos decided to enslave the species, as they refer to them as "man-animals".

John Travolta, under chunks of make-up, is the Chief of Security, Terl. He's planning on leaving the "miserable excuse for a planet" Earth. His trainee, Kerr (Forest Whitaker) is waiting to take over. But when Terl's plans get changed, he decides to hatch a scheme to mine for gold. At least that's what I got from the plot.

So instead of having his own people mine for it, he trains the "man-animals" before leaving them on Earth to dig up his treasure. Johnny Goodboy Tyler (Barry Pepper) eventually finds out the Psychlos secrets in a ridiculously turn of events and begins to make a plan of his own. Which is to destory the Psychlos and take back Earth.

All of this sounds exciting, and it probably would have been if not for a hunk-of-junk script. Most of this dialogue will make you cringe. But, not all is lost. Travolta gets a few good lines and you can't help but smirk when you hear that diabolical laugh. And his banter with Kerr is entertaining.

I actually thought the Psychlos looked kind of cool, in a cheesy sci-fi way. They, nor the movie, takes themselves seriously and you shouldn't either. No, this isn't a remake of PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, it is a bit better than that.

The special effects and photography are the movie's strong points. And Travolta chews up the scenery. The weak links, besides the obvious script, are all the humans and the lack of action. It's 3000, yet when you take a glance at "our" race, you'll think it's 100,000 BC. Because they look like relatives of cavemen.

The movie does end with a bang, sporting lots of eye candy and fireworks. Too bad it didn't have more action. Part of the title is Battlefield, right?

It's tough to say if this movie will find an audience. When compared to SOLDIER and WING COMMANDER, this movie is great. When compared to every other sci-fi film, it's...
