The grooviest man in the '60s unleashes his mojo in the '90s in order to stop his nemesis, Dr. Evil. This instant classic is one of the funniest movies you will ever see. Mike Myers' Austin Powers is a character that will remain in American culture and film for a very long time.
The film "only" grossed about $54 million after its box office run. Then, it became a gigantic hit on video and that's when fans started to take notice of Myers' very funny talent. He's at his best as Dr. Evil, though his Austin Powers is hard to match. As Evil, Myers' displays a bad guy like no other. There are tons of sight gags and numerous rip-offs of the James Bond movies. You'll enjoy the movie if you watch it more than once. The first time is to find out who the characters are, etc. The second and third times around, the jokes really kick in. Of course, seeing it about 15 times, I still laugh very hard at the jokes being made. Mike Myers' little hairy British hero is one for the books. He's the cool of coolness. AUSTIN POWERS is simply a fun movie. The "yeah, baby's" and the "shag" sayings are very funny, but I think it's the really tiny jokes that make the film so awesome. It takes a second viewing to spot all of them. During one scene, Austin is taking snap shots of Dr. Evil's evil plans. The one before his plan to take over the world is to make a carrot top movie. What other movie can you name that has a carrot top plug-in? Groovy baby, yeah. |
