Jack Nicholson and his all-star cast of Oscar winners and nominees takes part in this romantic comedy. It's about an old crank with an obsessive disorder who tries to change his ways after falling for a woman (Helen Hunt). Nicholson throughout the entire story dishes out mean and unkind comments to anyone and everyone, including his favorite lady friend. After getting to know Hunt as a person, he begins to transform into a better human being, a difficult task for such a crude and unkind individual.
Jack controls this movie, spouting off joke after joke. Helen Hunt provides the drama and gives an outstanding performance, which landed her an Oscar for Best Actress. Nicholson also gets an Oscar for Best Actor. Still, the movie could have been a little better, as the story seemed too bland and too original. The lead performances, however, make it easy to recommend. |
