The American President (1995)
CAST: Michael Douglas, Annette Bening, Charlie Sheen, Michael J. Fox, Richard Dreyfuss
DIRECTOR: Rob Reiner
MPAA RATING: PG-13
RUNNING TIME: 114 Minutes
STUDIO: Columbia

This film about a single President falling for an environmental lobbyist in an election year is nicely written and features a number of "A" card actors. Michael Douglas plays the President with a witty, hard-nosed attitude. His performance is equally matched by Annette Bening, who plays the gritty, but lovely environmentalist. Bening is simply sensational in this movie. Douglas and Bening get quite a hand from the other cast members. Martin Sheen does a fine job as the Secretary of State. Michael J. Fox plays the always under fire counselor to the President and Richard Dreyfuss as the typical, annoying candidate running against the President. This is not just a movie about how the President does his job, but also how this particular one lives out his life. It has a good collection of humor, which mixes in well with the drama. It is one movie that delivers the goods.
