James Cameron's underwater adventure has alot of eye candy. Brilliant effects aside, the movie has one moral: that humans still have the ability not to destroy each other. I must say if you really want to know what The Abyss is about, you must watch the director's cut. The theatrical leaves out a big chunk of info on the backstories. The added footage really helps the movie make alot of sense.
Sporting a great cast, this movie has alittle bit of everything. Some may look at it as overblown with not much action, but it's the tension and excitement that makes this an easy film to recommend.
This was one of the few Cameron films that wasn't considered a blockbuster. The film grossed about $60 during it's run, which is far below that Fox had expected. Still, the movie has a huge following. It's the underwater version of 2001, as both films share alot of meanings. Great score.
