Movie
I didnt see as many special effects as the movie advertised, but enough to get enjoyment out of the film as a whole. This movie may just be a 2 hour blockbuster that couldve been shown on the small screen, but who cares. Its clever enough to be thought of as a movie. Im giving it a high mark for its creativity and very chilling suspense. The X-Files have been re-opened...for a chance at a sequel.

Disc
It took quite a while before The X-Files was released on dvd. When it did arrive, folks noticed that Fox actually put some stuff on it. The 30-minute documentary is nice to watch, as it includes scenes from the series, movie, and interviews with cast and crew. Also included is commentary from Bowman and Carter, with Carter doing most of the talking. The menus are animated, with sound. And the dvd is accompanied by a nice 8-page booklet. This isn't up to par with special editions like those from Universal or New Line, but it's a nice start for a studio that took a while to latch on to dvd. The audio is not as loud as I would have liked it to be, but it gets the job done. There are surrounds to be heard, with a bit of bass up front. The only thing the video lacks is 16x9 enhancement. Other than that, it's a very clean transfer from Fox. Thankfully, they are now fully supporting anamorphic transfers. Too bad this one came out before they did that.

Overall
I have never watched a single episode of the show, but I still went to the theater and watched the movie. I liked it enough to buy the dvd. The movie makes no sense, but the presentation here is pretty good. You probably have it already, but if you don't, go get it, at the right price of course.
