Movie
This movie was roasted by critics and audiences. Grossing over $110 million and costing around $150 million, WILD WILD WEST was a box office bomb. Still, major weaknesses aside, this Big Willie Style movie is at least better than GODZILLA, though that's not saying much.
Disc
Usually when a movie is a flop or doesn't live up to expectations, it gets the best dvd treatment imaginable. WWW falls under that scenario. This disc has more features than the gadgets in the movie, which means alot. The HBO documentary goes behind the scenes of the movie, and there is a "Loveless Lair", which has 4 featurettes about the effects, costumes, etc. Since the movie isn't that good, you probably won't want to spend much time watching how they screwed it up, so what's left if the audio and video. The video is clear as a bell. Most blockbusters aren't shot in the 1.85:1 aspect, but I'm glad this one is. The audio is the best thing about the dvd. The sounds provide plenty of bass and the tarantula scenes has demo written all over them. That 80-foot machine rumbles the speakers hard. And it makes good use of the surround effects. This is a good disc for a not so good movie.
Overall
I can't force myself to recommend this to anyone, even Smith junkies. The script is just too bad and the movie is slow during the middle. Rent it and see if you survive.
