Movie
A great homage to the classic '50s big monster flicks, Tremors is alot of fun. Bacon and Ward are brilliant has the handymen turned heroes. The movie's strong point in regards to the monsters is the fact that they're more unique when you can't see them. The dust rustling, the posts bending, etc. are much more effective than just having a big puppet roaming around the entire time. A great mix of terror and comedy.
Disc
I believe Dante's Peak was Universal's first CE, but Tremors definitely was an early CE as well. You can tell this because of the lack of an anamorphic transfer. Still, the picture looks very good. It avoids grain through most of the movie, though there are a couple of long shots that look faded, with minor pixelation showing up. Aside from those tiny complaints, the print looks strong. The features are the key though. There is a nice 45 minute documentary on the film, which concentrates more on how the creatures were made. The features rating would've been 4 if there had been a director's commentary. Oh well, we can't have it all. The audio has a nice steady rumbling in the bass department. Anytime the creatures move, you'll feel tremors.
Overall
This is one of my favorite mindless movies. I've seen this about 15 times and I still don't get tired of it. Add to the fact that this is a CE makes this an easy title for recommendation. Definitely pick this one up.
