Film
"Shanghai Noon" is the Western version of "Rush Hour", Chan's last US film. This film wasn't near as successful as his previous mega-hit, probably because Chris Tucker isn't as popular as Owen Wilson. Despite the similar storyline as "Rush Hour" (Chan is rescuing another girl, this time a princess played by Lui), "Shanghai Noon" still has plenty of laughs and more exciting stunts by Chan.
Don't expect alot of depth here. It's another Jackie Chan action/comedy that may not offer as much as "Rush Hour", but it's just as fun.
Features
Disney has said they'll put more effort in the features section of their dvds. This is a standard release, and you still get a commentary from the duo with Tom Dey, deleted scenes, including the train wreckage, and several featurettes ranging from production to Chan's comic ability. For a non-special edition, this is certainly plenty of extras to keep you busy.
Audio
Aside from talky dramas, comedies usually get shorted during the mixing process. Although this won't rock your room like "Twister", the track here is still pretty active. The train sequence is where you'll get the most sound and the rest of the film sounds great. Nothing to complain about.
Video
A very nice 16x9 transfer. The print is extremely clean and free of any dirt. The colors are all very solid and the blacks are deep. Lots of resolution and detail. You're not going to find much to complain about on such a new print. Great quality.
Overall
This is definitely worth buying. You'll have fun watching this film, especially if you liked "Rush Hour". Nice features and good technical specs should please everyone. Recommeded.
