Film
David Fincher's twisted serial killer thriller is one of the more intriguing films to come out of the 1990s. Featuring a mega-huge cast (Freeman, Pitt, Spacey, and Paltrow) and an ending that will knock you out of your seat, "Seven" has many twists and turns and will get under your skin. Watch it first for the scares, then play it over and over again to really appreciate quality filmmaking.
Features
"Seven" was one of the first releases when dvd launched. It was known as a "flipper" disc. Now, New Line has revisited their hit with the help of David Fincher to create what is arguable the best dvd movie ever created. There's 2 discs worth of information. Disc 1 has 4 commentary tracks, similar to "Fight Club", another Fincher 2-disc set. Disc 2 has all the behind-the-scenes stuff, including an alternate ending and extended/deleted sequences. You also get treated to "John Doe's" notebooks, which features photos and stills. There's even a behind-the-scenes look at the mastering of the picture and sound. Very, very cool stuff.
Audio
One thing that makes this a better package than "Fight Club" is the inclusion of a DTS track. This mix is terrific. You'll catch all the subtle sounds in the rear and all the force up front. Dialogue is never lost during the loud scenes. The DTS track, once again, is a bit stronger than the DD, but both are outstanding mixes.
Video
This film will never look any better than it does now. Sporting another new transfer, "Seven" is fantastic looking. Presented in its original aspect of 2.40:1, all of Fincher's glorious picture is captured perfectly. This film must be seen in widescreen to really be appreciated.
Overall
Having mentioned that this is one of the best dvd releases ever, I don't think there's anything else to say. Buy it.
