The movie's first 30-40 minutes is extremely draggy. It plays and feels like a second sequel in some scenes. There are a few flashes of scares here and there, but it takes a while for it to get started. Thankfully, the second half more than makes up for the shortcomings. It's exciting, violent, and yes people, it's scary.

Nothing can top the original, as it single-handedly resurrected the horror genre. Who would have thought that "Scream" would spawn knock-offs. "Scream 2" managed to still keep the story fresh and had enough value to distant itself from the first one. And we now have finally gotten to "Scream 3", which doesn't have an identity at all. It feels like "just another slasher flick".

Features
The worst of the series gets the best dvd treatment. Isn't that the way it usually goes? This set is loaded features, ranging from audio commentary to the alternate ending, which shows you why it wasn't used.

The best feature is the outtakes. They only last about 6 minutes, but there's some funny stuff to be found. There are also 4 deleted scenes, 2 of which are different takes of the opening sequence. The one they used for the film is better than the 2 deleted ones. And to top it all off are some very creative motion menus.

Audio
A very energetic mix here. Just like the first 2, this one roars with bass. All the usual bells and whistles are picked up, and the dialogue is very natural sounding.

Video
Being the newest Scream film, this one obviously looks the best. It's also 16x9 enhanced, so the detail is that much sharper. Colors are natural and the print is flawless, showing no signs of grain or shimmering. Excellent.

Overall
If you don't care about that box set that is coming in September, and you like this one, go get it. Otherwise, a rental is probably enough for this tired sequel-sequel.
