Movie
This was the feature-film debut of director Tim Burton. Having not seen this film in over 10 years, I forgot alot of the bizarre, yet very funny sequences from the film. Alot of Burton's effects and sets can be found in some of his other films, particularly BEETLEJUICE and EDWARD SCISSORHANDS. The movie was shot on a small budget, so the filmmakers had to do simple, which worked out great.

Disc
The first thing you'll notice about the dvd are the ultra cool menus. Once you get to the features page, you'll notice a whole bunch of neat stuff to look at. The biggest feature is the entertaining commentary by Burton and Paul Reubens. Your then treated to 4 funny deleted scenes and finally a music-only score with commentary by Elfman. A surprise in the section is the storyboards sequence. Not only do you get to look at the really neat storyboards and designs, but there is a commentary with the production designer. Definitely better than the usual boring sequences found on other discs.

My favorite thing about the whole dvd is the anamorphic transfer. This film has never been presented in widescreen until now. The look of the picture is simply gorgeous. The film is almost free of any specks, though there are a few spots. This film has never looked better and it's a disc that to show off. Burton's paintbrush shines bright, with strong colors. The audio is also a surprise. It's been remastered in a brand new 5.1 mix and it sounds terrific. Bass isn't needed here, but everything else is put to good use, especially Elfman's unforgettable score. Warner Brothers has given new life in a 15 year old film. Bravo.

Overall
This has a huge cult-following and Burton may have more fans than any other director. Extremely recommended. Lots of fun.
