The top 1997 blockbuster movie had interesting special effects as well as an effective alien catching force in Jones and Smith. Jones plays the veteran ufo agent, while Smith is the wacky young gun. Laughs and action will fill the room, just as it did with ticket sales at the box office in 1997. Probably will start up a sequel. Good fun for anyone.
Features
The Limited Edition is the one to buy if you're a features junky, but since I'm not, this version has more than enough to offer. There's a visual commentary, al la "Ghostbusters", that features Sonnenfeld and Jones. Too bad Will Smith wasn't there. The documentary is a solid feature that offers up the usual. The rest of the stuff is techincal looks at the film.
Audio
This 5.1 DD mix is extremely active. A DTS version is available, but DD will do your surround set-up justice. The bass is noisy, especially when Smith uses the noisy cricket weapon. The surround channels are almost always on, with nice crystal clear flow from the center speaker.
Video
Another refernce-quality transfer from the folks at Sony. This is a colorful film and it won't look any better on dvd. No grain could be spotted and dust and dirt are non-existent. Similar to what Will Smith says in the film, dvd makes this look good.
Overall
This dvd was announced a couple of years ago, but was delayed, until now. Fans salivating its release can finally stop as this package is rock solid. Highly recommended.
