Movie
The Matrix was a huge box office hit. It was one of the most popular movies of 1999. The effects are amazing, as is the action. The movie's dialogue and length keep it from being a great film. Other than those distractions, the rest of the film kicks butt.
Disc
Warner Brothers has given its most popular movie a nice treatment. Let's start with those ultra cool menus. Using scenes from the movie, there is also very cool music playing in the background. It's one of the best looking menus I've ever seen. The features are jam packed. There is a 25 minute documentary on the film, and it is very enteraining. It features interviews from everyone and shows some really cool behind-the-scenes footage, which features mostly karate training. The video is gorgeous. Being a movie about computers, you will notice green everywhere. Alot of movies use colors to show the movie's mood, much like Kubrick's use of blue in Eyes Wide Shut. The blacks are deep and solid, a good thing since most of the movie is dark. No shimmering to report either. The audio really cranks up. The soundtrack just rocks, and with the movie's many explosions, you'll be glad you have that surround system. Definitely demo stuff here.
Overall
This movie has now become the highest selling dvd in the short history. Chances are, those folks who recently bought a dvd player, probably bought it just for this dvd. And I bet alot of people bought this as their first movie. Why not? It's got tons of features, a great anamorphic transfer, and awesome sound. Highly recommended.
