Film
Though the plot is not as good as the original, this movie boasts even better special effects and lots more action. The dinosaurs look better this time around. And Goldblum gets to take the spotlight, without Sam Neill bumbling around.
This movie is a little darker than the first one. Spielberg has given this one more of an edge. He had to do something to make this somewhat different from Jurassic Park. And for all those T-Rex fans, you get to watch 2 wreak havoc this time around. And look out for those raptors. Strong cast easily surpasses that of the original's.
Features
Some minor features were sacrificed in order to make room for the DTS track. Big deal. There's still the 1-hour, very informative, documentary on the film and the trailers. The documentary covers everything from production to the effects. It's pretty fun to watch. Anyways, if you got this DTS version, you're buying for the sound and not the extras. Speaking of the sound...
Audio
It rocks! This DTS mix is one of the loudest ever to be heard by human ears. Not only does the bass crush every bone in your body (especially when the T-Rex's roar), but the surrounds stay extremely active as well. Dinoroars, explosions, and human screaming bounce off each side of the room constantly. But this track is especially designed for the bass junkie. The T-Rex sequences are flat out thunderous. This may be the best controlled bass I've ever heard, possibly better than "Saving Private Ryan". In all, a wonderful audio mix. One of the best ever. Reference quality.
Video
Even with the space that DTS requires, the video never suffers. It's of crystal clear quality, as are all of Spielberg's gems. This enhanced transfer shows 0% signs of wear or tear. The colors are very strong and the night sequences doesn't lose any resolution.
Overall
All dvds should look and sound like this one. This may not satisfy everyone in terms of story, but the technical qualities of this dvd are hard to beat. The DTS track will flat out knock you down and the picture is 100% perfect. A must own for dvd fans!
