"The Living Daylights" showcased the debut of the new James Bond, played by Timothy Dalton. Dalton was a breath of fresh air, not only for the series, but for the Bond fanatics. I mean, Roger Moore was looking really old in the early 80s films. With Dalton, we get a darker, more human Bond. This film is a great debut.

The finale is one of the biggest ones ever seen in a Bond film, as it features tons of action. Dalton is fine in this role, even better than his portrayal in the follow-up "Licence to Kill". If you had to pick which Bond film was the best from the 1980s, it would be between this and Moore's "For Your Eyes Only".

Features
All the Bond discs get the same fantastic treatment. An audio commentary, a couple of nice documentaries, and the usual filler. The making-of documentary here is pretty entertaining, focusing on the transition from Moore to Dalton in the Bond role. There's even a deleted scene, which is a first for a Bond dvd. The first 2 waves contained zero deleted scenes. It's good to find one here.

Audio
When MGM remixes a Bond disc, it usually turns out good, as the dvd sounds strong for a film made in 1987. The bass is pretty loud, though it's not as crisp as what new films have. The surrounds, though limited at times, still provide a little spark. A pretty strong 5.1 mix.

Video
This is the best looking Bond dvd prior to the Brosnan versions. The colors are very strong and not muted at all. Blacks are deep and there's no fading of color. There's a tad bit of dust on the print, but you can't ask for a better picture.

Overall
I say buy 'em all.
