Movie
This $170 million hit was Carrey's first attempt to play a normal human being. At times, there's a tad too much mush, but for the most part, there are plenty of scenes to laugh at. Carrey has a blast as the now-honest lawyer, with lots and lots of physical comedy, al la Jerry Lewis.
Disc
If you have that crappy, full frame version of this movie, you might as well trash it right now and get this splended special edition. Universal has gone back and given this a brand new anamorphic widescreen transfer and loaded it with extras. Among them are a 16-minute featurette that is very funny and a commentary track from the director. My favorite of the group are the outtakes. They are hilarious, too bad they only run about one and half minutes. I've been wanting this dvd, but refused to buy it when it was a standard, pan and scan version. Now, Universal has finally released it in widescreen. The transfer is very good, with minor nicks and scratches to report. The audio is actually quite aggressive. The sub-woofer has a bit more bass than usual for a comedy.
Overall
As mentioned before, either pawn off that pan and scan version or sell it, because this is the one you have to have. Great features, a new transfer, and more than adequate audio make this Jim Carrey hit one to own. I'm not lying either.
