Movie
More laughs than scares, LAKE PLACID is a smaller,
not-as-fun version of ANACONDA. It hides the crocodile
about as well as hiding the action. David E. Kelley's script
looks and sounds like an extended version of Ally
McBealwith a crocodile. This just doesn't feel like a
monster movie, and it isn't. It's a comedy with some bits of
gore added in.
Disc
Pretty standard stuff again from Fox. At least they did put something other than the trailer. We get the self-promo 5 minute featurette, with has more movie clips than interviews. 3 tv spots and bios round it out. The video is not anamorphic, but it still looks very good. Most of the action is at night, so color is not much of a factor. The audio is good, especially when the croc roars. That's about the only time the bass kicks in. In all, this is a pretty lame attempt from Fox, but they are slightly improving.
Overall
This is more of a comedy than a thriller. It's very short, so the film's flaws are easier to digest. Anytime I see Betty White cursing a Sheriff, I've got to laugh.
