This inticing tale is full of tricks and surprises that will make you scratch your head. Michael Douglas does a good job as the one who is put into the game. Fincher creates a nice scenery in the film, as it's difficult to depict what's real and what's a game. This is Douglas in one of his better roles. Try not to let the plot twists overcome the movie's sharpness. This was PolyGram's first major release.

Features
The only thing that has changed on this release is the price. When the studio was PolyGram, this movie-only edition was retailed for $29.99. Now that the studio has changed their name to USA Films, they have begun to lower some of their releases. Now this dvd is retailed for $19.99, a much better deal, considering there are only cast & crew bios and a couple of trailers, which aren't advertised on the packaging. The menus, though pretty standard, have a neat effect. Everytime you make a selection, the screen breaks up into puzzle pieces.

Audio
This dvd has been THX approved, so the sound is on par. The bass jumps out at you in scenes you don't expect it to. The surround effects are above average here, but with this being sort of a quiet film, they aren't needed.

Video
A non-anamorphic transfer that still looks very good. David Fincher's movies are always dark, and this one is no exception. Detail is still good through the dark scenes, but the images would have been a little sharper if there was a 16x9 transfer. No grain, pixeling, or shimmering can be found. A very good picture.

Overall
This is one of my favorite movies, and it may be the only Fincher movie with any sort of happy message. It wasn't worth picking up at a $30 retail, but it is now at $20.
