Film
Ice Cube and Tucker work well together on screen. They
appear as real-life buddies. Tucker is hilarious as the
weed-puffin' Smokey. This movie put him on the map as a
real comedian. It's pretty much a film about smokin' weed.
This small, yet big hit film will get you in the laughing mood.
Features
This release isn't as packed as some of the other Platinum Series discs, but there's still enough here to keep you busy. There are 7 deleted scenes, some of which are very funny. The highlight is the interview session, especially with Director Gray. He offers up some nice information on the film. He said they shot the film in 20 days and the most takes they used on a shot was 2! The menus are pretty subtle, with a booming beat in the background. In all, a nice package.
Audio
Though only in 2.0 surround, this track is still pretty lively. You don't need great sound for weed-smokin', but you do for a bumping soundtrack. The bass is frequently used. The surrounds have the day off in this one.
Video
A completely flawless video. No dust or pixels could be found. The colors are vibrant, with strong blacks. This anamorphic transfer is one of the better ones from New Line. I hate pan & scan, but since this movie was such a huge hit on the vhs rental and sales charts when it was released, I'm surprised New Line didn't include a P&S version.
Overall
One of the funniest movies of this generation gets treated with great care. Good extras and great video, but the jokes are still the main attraction. I know you have this already.
