Movie
Will Smith is the king of 4th of July weekend. It must be said that Kevin Costner is the king of baseball movies. BULL DURHAM and FIELD OF DREAMS are very popular and good films, but FOR LOVE OF THE GAME doesn't entertain as much as the other to. Its main problem is the phony love story that is the movie's backbone.
Disc
The features, yet again, could pass for a Collector's Edition. There are 11 deleted scenes, some of which would've helped the movie. There is also a 25 minute featurette with cast and crew interviews. The menus have music, but they're pretty standard. The video is another great anamorphic transfer from Universal. They continue to be one of the best in that field. The audio is equally good. You'll pick up most of the crowd noises with your surround system. This is one movie where your sub-woofer can rest.
Overall
An average movie is hard to recommend. If you like baseball movies, the non-baseball parts will bore you to death. Costner and Reilly are good, the rest of the cast isn't. Rent.
