"Final Destination" succeeds in being different from other slasher films with its nifty plot, but also suffers from being the same as its genre mates by feeling like another "who gets it next" film. The death scenes are pretty good, but the characters themselves are your run-of-the-mill teens that don't have much of a big screen presence. It's a mixed bag.

Features
While the movie may be average, the dvd sure is good. There's 3 commentaries to listen to, although with the movie only being so-so, why would you want to hear them? There's 2 documentaries (actually featurettes), with the focus being on test screenings and premonitions. It's good to see that New Line is trying things new. The test screenings featurette is really great and worth checking out.

Audio
Seemed like the surrounds were always active during the movie. This movie features lots of little whispers and sounds and the back channels pick up every bit of them. The bass is used alot during the airplane sequence and near the end. Another great 5.1 mix.

Video
There's nothing wrong at all with this 16x9 transfer. The dark scenes are deep and black and the day scenes are free of pixels. No shimmering or anything. A perfect transfer.

Overall
A tough call. The movie is only above average, but the dvd is terrific. Flip a coin.
