Film
A well organized plot, plus a pair of solid actors in Travolta
and Cage, and you have yourself a very good movie. The
movie's length could have been trimmed a bit, but you still
get caught up in the shoot 'em up scenes, in addition to the
changing of the faces between Travolta and Cage. These 2
stars work well together in this film. John Woo's (BROKEN ARROW) traditional action scenes are great eye candy. The guy is a master at creating a glossy, slick action film.
Features
I'm sure many of you have noticed that Paramount is starting to including a few more features on their newer discs. Unfortunately, FACE/OFF was one of their first releases when they joined the format in 1998. So all that's here is a trailer. However, this is one of coolest trailers ever made. So it's not a total loss.
Audio
Boom! Boom! Boom! That's what you're going to hear throughout the entire picture. Nothing but a constant, steady bass line. And that's not from the explosions. That's from the soundtrack. The explosions and gun fire only add to what is a very aggressive sound mix. Surrounds are great, hey, this is a Woo flick. One of the better sounding dvds on the market. Reference baby.
Video
Not quite as on par as the audio. The print suffers a very tad bit from shimmering and the occasional grain. Still, this is a nice looking anamorphic transfer. Colors are strong, with deep blacks and shadow. Almost 100% crisp.
Overall
One of my favorite films. This box office smash will please any action audience. Try and find it lower than the $24.99 most places are asking. The audio is the key to this release.
