Film
"Edward Scissorhands" may be the most popular of Tim Burton's dark comedy fairy tales. It tells the story of a human creation who becomes unfinished when his creator (Price) dies. All that keeps Edward (Depp) from being normal are scissors he has for hands.

Plenty of humor from this film, which is a trademark of Burton. But not all is laughter as the film begins to switch to a darker side near its end, which is also a trademark of Burton.

A feast for the eyes, "Edward Scissorhands" is basically a story of loneliness, frustration, deception, love, and sorrow. Danny Elfman once again provides a great score while Burtonee Johnny Depp is superb as the title character.

Features
This is a "10th Anniversary Edition" from Fox. Does it have enough features to warrant such a title? No, but I doubt there was much material to find for this 10 year old movie. You do get a couple of commentary tracks here and a really old/boring featurette. The menus are spectacular, however. Some of the best produced for dvd.

Audio
The sound is disappointing. Mixed in 4.0 (I guess that was the original mix), everything is quiet, except when Elfman's score arises. The surrounds are on vacation, and most everything is upfront. I did notice that I had to change the volume from time to time, as some parts, the score was too loud, and in others, the speech was too low. A mixed bag.

Video
Thank goodness this video is better than the sound. This anamorphic transfer is simply awesome. It looks like a brand new film. Burton loves color and it shows. Everything looks strong, and the snowy scenes near the end are fantastic. This transfer is just another reminder of how outstanding dvd is.

Overall
The features are okay, the sound is kinda mixed, but the video and the actual movie (most importantly) are enough to recommend this movie. I mean, it's Burton, of course you're going to buy it. Plus, this is your only chance to see the movie in widescreen!
