Movie
The tension builds after each attack in the movie. There are a few big surprises that director Harlin has for us. That's what I liked the most about the movie. It wasn't just a water logged special effects spectacle. The film was really scary. The mechanical sharks look better than cgi ones, but they still don't look that bad. Another thing I liked was that 'SEA' didn't steal too much from JAWS. It only borrows tiny bits and pieces, and it actually did a few new things. DEEP BLUE SEA isn't as good as JAWS, but it puts the sequels to absolute shame.

Disc
Though "Special Edition" is not printed on the cover, this dvd has enough features to be considered one. There are 2 documentaries on the film. One is the HBO special that lasts 15 minutes, the other is about the effects. It lasts 8 minutes. Commentary is available and there are some deleted scenes. The deleted scenes aren't anything to brag about. Plus, they all run together and aren't broken up by chapters or anything. That's a sign that Warner Brothers didn't think the scenes were important either. There are animated menus, but they're nothing special. The audio and video are the things that shine. The video is as crystal clear as the water. There isn't a single sign of dust or pixelation anywhere. It's perfect. The audio just flat out rocks. The water gushing into the facility sounds great. And the explosions will certainly feel more than just a simple boom. This is a demo disc if I've ever seen one.

Overall
I thought this movie was alot of fun. Sure, the cgi sharks look a bit cartoonish, but you'll still have a blast. I didn't waste a second picking up this disc. You shouldn't either. Highly recommended.
