True story about the disaster of "Apollo 13" and how the crew manages to survive. All-star cast blended in with a sharp script makes for a good all-around story. Hanks, Sinise, and Harris are all strong in the leads. Howard's direction lends alot of realism to the audience. Nominated for Best Picture, this was Hanks' follow up to one of his other big hits Forrest Gump.

Disc
This is probably Universal's most popular special edition. In the features department, it's great quality instead of useless quantity. The hour-long documentary is the highlight. Features aside, this is the disc to use for reference. The audio booms with every blast from the shuttle. The surround effects are great, catching every little pop and pow that comes up on the crew's ill-fated mission. Dialogue is nicely heard, with nothing from the bass to clutter it up. The video is anamorphic and it's gorgeous. All blacks are deep and solid, with no shimmering or pixelation to report. Colors are strong and vibrant. Simply put, this is one of the best dvd releases ever.
